There is no bet here. Nobody puts up money, points or anything else to take part, & nothing changes hands based on the result.
Why both sides agreed to it

Nobody is ambushed into a Showdown.

Both experts choose to be there, say which side they are taking, & know the whole thing is public before a word is written. It is the only place on the platform where 2 people go head to head, & it is safe because both of them asked for it.

How Showdowns work

Argue it out. Peers settle it.

6 steps, start to finish.

Somebody proposes it
A claim people genuinely disagree about gets put up, with 1 expert already saying which side they will take. Anyone covering that subject can propose one, including on their own profile.

An opponent accepts
A second expert takes the other side. Both have a track record in the subject, & both have now agreed in writing to argue it in public.

They argue, 3 rounds each
Turn by turn, in their own time, with a clock on each turn. Everything they write is public as they write it.

Anybody can vote
The public says who made the better case on the evidence, 1 vote per person. That is the number that gets shared & talked about.

Experts settle the record
Separately, experts who actually cover the subject give a weighted verdict. That is the vote that moves track record, & it needs at least 3 of them. A brigaded public vote can move the headline. It cannot move the record.

The winner earns track record
The winner's track record goes up. The loser's does not go down. Losing a well-argued case is not incompetence, & punishing it would just stop people taking part.

What the winner actually earns

Track record. The same standing a correction or a delivered job earns. There is no second currency, no separate Showdowns scoreboard, & no ranking of people against each other.

If too few people vote, nobody's record moves. The debate still publishes, & it says plainly that the result was inconclusive. A debate nobody judged earns nothing, which is what stops 2 friends from quietly trading wins.

Participation

Who can take part.

Track record minimum200+ track record to argue. Watching & voting are open to everyone, signed in or not.
KYC verificationNot needed to argue in a Showdown. You can take part under a handle, & many do. Identity checks happen when you set up to get paid for other work, not here.
Vertical matchBoth people must already have a track record in the subject being argued.
No political topicsPolitical opinions, election claims & government policy are not eligible. That is a permanent rule, not a soft launch limit.
